From passion to profession - Alex's start in IT

Hey, Graduate! Could you please tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Aleksandar Karatov, and I am a Golang Software Engineer at Scalefocus. Outside of work I am a university student.

In my free time I enjoy driving, going out with friends and watching movies.

How did you decide to pursue a career in IT?

It all started at the age of 14 because of my love for video games and my dream to create them myself. I chose a specialized school where I studied networking and programming. My love for computers and pretty much anything with a microchip grew and I knew that I just had to continue my passion.

What inspired you to apply for the Academy?

I was very excited to learn a new programming language and possibly get a job where I can put my newly learned skills to use. (Spoiler alert I got the job).

My main goal was exactly that - excel in my studies and then get the job.

Was it hard to balance between the Academy and your everyday life?

Now, it was not easy juggling between university and the Academy, but it was so worth it. I learned so much in the span of just three months! It was made easier by the wonderful tutors who explained everything in detail. And when I needed help, I knew that I could count on them.

Did you manage to bond with the others from the Academy (students, mentor and tutors)?

I managed to bond with my mentor, and I am happy to be working in the same team as him on a project for an international client.

Describe the 90-day journey with 1 word.
